Direct Cremation

What this service includes

  • No funeral ceremony required
  • Optional family visitation before cremation
  • Cremation at our own crematorium in Edson
  • No third-party involvement and no extra mileage charges

Direct cremation is usually chosen when no funeral ceremony is desired. A family may still include a visitation prior to the cremation, and a memorial service can be held later, when relatives and friends can come together.

Embalming is not required by law for a direct cremation. With cremation, your options are numerous: the cremated remains can be interred in a cemetery plot, kept by a family member in an urn, or scattered on private property or at a place that was significant to your loved one. Under Alberta Funeral Service Regulatory Board regulation, cremated remains not claimed within five years of the cremation must be disposed of by the funeral home, so please talk with us about your plans.

Our Process of Care

1

Receiving your loved one into our care

Day or night, we arrange the transfer of your loved one into our care and make sure the documentation that goes with it is completed.

2

Meeting with your funeral director

We set an arrangement time that works for your family, in Edson, in Hinton or in your own home, and guide you through each decision without obligation.

3

Optional family visitation

If you would like time together before the cremation, we can arrange a private family visitation.

4

Cremation at Foothills Crematorium

Cremation takes place at our own crematorium, the only one in West Central Alberta.

5

Paperwork handled for you

We register the death with Vital Statistics, obtain the death certificate and burial permits, notify Canada Pension Plan and help apply for the CPP Death Benefit and Survivor Benefit where applicable.

6

A year of daily grief support

Our support does not end after the service. Families can sign up to receive a grief support message from us each day for a year.

We are here for you, 24/7

When you need us, we'll be there to guide you through every step with compassion and expertise.
