Funeral Service in Edson Since 1913
Our History
The history of funeral service in Edson and area dates back to 1913, when a flu epidemic swept the area. The local hospital hired a townsperson to bury the victims of the epidemic.
More formally, the Edson Funeral Parlor started business in the years that followed and was known by that name until Liberty and Anne Joy purchased the business from the local owner. The business was then known as the Edson Funeral Home. In about 1955, Liberty and Anne Joy partnered with Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home of Edmonton and operated as Connelly-McKinley Edson Funeral Home until 1978. In 1978, Anne Joy died and Liberty Joy dissolved the partnership with Connelly-McKinley.
Edson Funeral Home (The Foothills Memorial Chapel), as it is now known, opened for business on January 1st, 1979, with Robert and Marilynn Joy.
Liberty Joy died in 1981, after serving Edson and area for more than thirty years in the funeral business.
Today, Edson Funeral Home is a division of the Caring Group Corp.

Meet Our Caring Team
Our funeral directors and staff take pride in caring for each family, making sure their needs are met.
In the words of the families we serve
“Andy and Kirsten went above and beyond what was required. The love and support from them as well as John was so comforting. It meant the world to us. We couldn’t have gotten through this without your love.”
“We were far, far from home. They took us in and helped us lay my wife to rest. We were able to use their facilities for 4 straight days and nights. It was a time of great sadness, sorrow and healing. We came as clients, we left as family. I would trust them wholeheartedly with all my needs.”
“After the sudden loss of my fiancé they were extremely accommodating and helpful. No idea was too crazy when it came to personalizing his service. I cannot say enough about the love and support shown in such tough times.”
“We would like to say thank you to Andrew and Kirsten for their support and service during a difficult time. We feel we received the kindest support.”
“I haven’t had to work with a funeral home before, and when my father died, the absolute care and concern, professionalism and kindness that was shown to me by Kayla and the staff was such that my memory of this time will be forever lightened. I cannot stress enough how pleased I am; these are truly wonderful people.”
“Thank you, Kayla, for travelling to see us in Grande Cache during the Christmas season and on a snowy day. Having you meet us took a lot of the stress away. Thank you for your calm, kind way of leading us through making decisions that made sense uniquely to our family situation and respected our wishes. You did not try to sell us things we did not need or want.”
“In our time of extreme grief, Sylvie and Jayne met us with open arms, stepped us through the process and helped us to make decisions, and supported the decisions already set out by my mother to best suit her last wishes. Although very professional, the kindness and understanding they showed stood out more than anything.”
