We should also consider pre-planning our funeral service, as it not only lets our survivors know what our wishes are, but will also help our families through their time of bereavement.

Making Your Pre-Arrangements
1. Recording personal information
The details required for Vital Statistics: full name, address, spouse’s name, occupation, birth date and birthplace, parents’ names and birthplaces, Social Insurance Number, and your next of kin or executor.
2. Making service choices
Funeral or memorial service, burial, cremation, entombment or transfer to another city, music selections, and the family and friends who will take part in a meaningful service.
3. Making specific selections
A casket or cremation container, an urn, a burial or urn vault, and a monument or memorial marker can all be discussed during a pre-arrangement conference.
4. Arranging payment
Services do not have to be prepaid, but costs are guaranteed not to increase if payment is made as a one-time payment. Payment for a prearranged funeral is placed in trust with the Bank of Nova Scotia, and a GIC is issued to the contract holder for a 5-year term.
