Robert Zimmer Obituary

Robert Peter Zimmer (63) of Hinton, Alberta passed away suddenly on April 17, 2023.

Known to friends and family as Rob or Robbie, he was born to Peter and Hazel (Freize) Zimmer, on March 12, 1960, in Preeceville, Saskatchewan.

The Zimmer family resided in Endevor, Saskatchewan for many years before moving to Mafeking, Manitoba where Rob attended school. It was here that Hazel started taking the kids to meetings at the nearest Kingdom Hall. Rob’s early childhood was spent by the side of his grandfather Louis Frieze who had a strong love of the Bible. This was certainly something that stuck with him his entire life.

By 1972 the family relocated to Bellsite, Manitoba where his love for animals and gardening grew.  Robbie and his first horse Buddy made reoccurring appearances in the local parade.  Led by his mom Hazel the two were inseparable. They spent much of their time together working side by side on the farm.  There she taught him the art of leatherworking and it was here that he developed his strong sense in training horses, something that was remarkable.

Late in his teen years Rob became a father to Jodi Zimmer, he began logging and worked hard driving truck most of his life.

In the mid-80’s Rob met his wife Kristine along with her daughter Destiny.  He was quick to embrace family life and did his best raising his girls.

Rob and his family moved to The Pas Manitoba and took an interest in natural path healing.  They began the new venture of being business owners of Grass Roots Body Care and for the next several years Rob enjoyed receiving certification in reflexology, herbology, and homeopathic medicine.

Robbie enjoyed fishing, organic gardening, caring for a wild rice farm, and making weekend visits for many years to help with his parents’ farm.

In 2006, Rob and Kristine moved to Alberta and in 2008, unfortunately, she passed away. Rob’s daughter Destiny moved in with him in 2010 and shortly after he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He worked very hard until his illness prevented him from doing so any longer.

Robbie’s granddaughter Janina was a highlight for him, he helped to raise her. Janina was loved very much by Rob.

With the start of his daughter’s studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses, his interest in the Bible was sparked again and he began his own Bible study that led to baptism.

On Aug 2, 2020, Rob was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness during the pandemic in Hinton, Alberta, in an outdoor hot tub along with 7 others. Not only was that day special for him because of his own baptism, but his daughter Jodi was also baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness on that same day in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan.

The last years of Rob’s life were spent making his best effort in the ministry and constant personal study.  Robbie had a strong faith and looked forward to Jehovah’s promise of perfect health and peace; he loved Jehovah and his family whole-heartedly.

Rob is survived by his two daughters Jodi Zimmer (husband Bill Church) and Destiny Brown, grandchildren Robi Zimmer, Jonny Zimmer and Janina Lowe.  He is also survived by his sisters Karen Stevenson and Cheryl Zimmer.  Rob was predeceased by his wife Kristine Lowe and parents Pete and Hazel.

Rob’s family and friends will have a memorial held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2:00 pm on Saturday April 22/2023.
