Jeannine Lucienne Hamel

It is with deep sadness that the family of Jeannine Lucienne Hamel announces her passing on June 11, 2026, at 80 years of age.

Jeannine was born October 25, 1945 in St. Paul, Alberta, to Roland and Diana (Roberge) Hamel. 

Left to mourn her are her son Richard (Christine) Labrie of Red Deer, daughter Darlene (Gordon) Smereka of St. Paul, daughter Sandie (Randal) Labrie of Wildwood, and daughter Melanie (Clayton) Sculthorp of Edson, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and numerous honorary grandchildren.   Jeannine is also survived by her brother Lionel Hamel of Terrace, BC and sister Irene (Dan) Dubuc of Campbell River, BC, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

As a young mom, Jeannine made a living working in the IGA meat departments in both Edson and St. Paul, with a short stint as “meter maid” in Prince George BC. In 1979, she attended Alberta Vocational College for upgrading and graduated as a Community Health Representative for the St. Paul area.

Jeannine moved back to Edson in 1997. An active member of the Pioneer Cabin and the Edson Legion, mom made many amazing friends. She loved being with friends and family, remaining socially active throughout her battle with Cancer.

The family would like to express thanks to Marilyn Oishi and the many nurses and health care staff of the Edson Hospital who cared for our mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Run of Hope or Haying in the 30’s.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
