In loving memory of Florence Bertella (Goodale) Dickson, who passed away peacefully at the age of 91, on January 10, 2026.
Born on August 19, 1934, in Wainwright, Alberta, to parents Albert and Evelyn Goodale. The oldest of five girls – Florence, Isabel, Edith, Frances and Sheila. The family moved from Wainwright by a team of horses and wagon to the Niton Junction area in 1939. The family then moved to Foley Timber in 1946, where mom met dad. In 1947 they moved back to Niton Junction.
Mom was the oldest, which meant helping take care of her sisters and helping work on the farm. She milked cows, took care of the chickens, worked in the garden and went berry picking. She learned to cook and bake bread at an early age.
All of these things came in handy when she married Frank Dickson on March 29, 1952. She continued to do all of these things she had learned into her marriage.
Dad and Mom were involved in the community, belonging to many groups, namely with two. One was the Niton Community, where mom helped out with cooking when needed for events. They played cards, mainly whist, for many years there. The second group was the Beaver Meadow Gymkhana Club, where mom was the timekeeper for many years as the family all rode horses.
Dad and Mom enjoyed many trips over the years to the United States, BC for fruit picking yearly, Hawaii and the trip they really enjoyed to Australia and New Zealand on a farm tour.
Mom continued to live on the farm, working in her weedless garden which was her pride and joy. She loved her beautiful flowers and keeping her grass cut, until she couldn’t do this anymore. She continued to pick berries which she so loved to do and making pies she loved to eat.
The love of her family was most important to her. The large family gatherings, where everyone came home to celebrate and enjoy the huge meals mom was famous for, were always something she looked forward to and cherished.
Her health changed in 2016 when she was diagnosed with dementia. Mom had to leave the farm as she could no longer take care of herself. She moved into Edson Continuing Care where she resided until her passing.
Florence is survived by her children Ken & Debbie Dickson, grandchildren Danny, Jody, BJ & their families; Debbie Mizera, granddaughter Chelsea and her family; Barb & Eugene Piercy, grandchildren Alex, Anthony, Glen & their families; Dale & Linda Dickson, grandchildren Lindsay, Tyler & their families; Duane & Myra Dickson & their families; grandchildren of Vern, James, Mitchell, Terry and their families; daughters-in-law Brenda Dickson and Bonnie Dickson.
