The official obituary of

Ruth Berkholtz (Nee: Wegert)

19451209 — 20261103

Ruth Berkholtz departed this world at the age of 80 years on November 3d, 2026, with Glen and her 3 children by her side.

Ruth was born on December 9, 1945, and grew up in Edson, AB area. She was raised by Gus & Martha Wegert along with her sisters Frieda and Alma, and brothers Alvin and Alfred.

Glen & Ruth first met when they would walk to school together in the Pinedale area. Once they finished school, they started dating and hung out at local dances. A year and a bit later they got married on April 28, 1961, on the family farm. Just a small wedding with close family. Their first child, Dwayne, was born a short time later on July 19, 1961. Then along came Debbie, born September 15, 1966. And finally, Darcy, on September 8, 1978. Ruth & Glen moved into Edson and started to raise their family. After Debbie was born, they moved out to the Bear Lake Farm. They lived on the farm for 26 years with their herd of cattle, pigs, horses, chickens and many other animals. Ruth stayed at home to raise the 3 children. Ruth loved to garden and tend to her flowers. If you ever drove by the place, you would notice the beautiful flowers from afar. In the spring of 1993 they moved to Peers, where they lived happily for the next 33 years. Ruth took great pride in her flowers at the Peers house as well. People would drive for miles just to come have a look. In 2006 they won an award for Country Pride Contest for Best Yard. She also took great joy in decorating for the holidays; Christmas was a sight to see with an uncountable number of lights strung through the property. She was also a big sports fan, never liked to miss a football or baseball game. This included never missing one of Darcy’s baseball ball games. Ruth & Glen had some great friends along the way, Irene and Albert Siefried, Elmer and Agnes Pelke and George and Norma Seibel. In recent years they spent many days visiting with Frank & Carol out at their farm which continued when they all moved into the Edson lodge.

Ruth is survived by her husband Glen and their 3 children Dwayne Berkholtz (Karen Brown), Debbie Gardiner (Rob Gardiner) and Darcy Berkholtz (Alaina Berkholtz), as well as the grandchildren, Regan Berkholtz, Courtney Toews (Casey), Taylor Therriault (David), Easton Berkholtz and great grandchild Hudson Berkholtz (Regan).

As per their wishes, there will be no Celebration of Life.

The family appreciates your thoughts, prayers, and support during this time.
