MAH, Wing Gin
December 1st, 1933 – December 13th, 2015
It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of Wing Mah. He passed away with peace and dignity, after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer.
Wing is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Faye, his brother Kim Gin, his sons, Herman, Andy (Feng), daughter Lorraine and grandchildren Parker, Ryan and Jessica.
He was predeceased by his parents Tong Get and Gee She and daughter Elaine. Wing was born in Toishan, China and moved to Canada on September 6, 1950. Wing and his brother Kim worked alongside in their father's restaurant The Rendezvous Café located in Edson, Alberta. Together the brothers moved on to operate The K and W Café in Fox Creek and the Plainsmen Restaurant in Edson. Eventually, Edson became home for Wing and the family. He retired in 1986, and later moved to Edmonton to be closer to his children.
He was a kind, hardworking man, devoted to family and embraced life's challenges. In his spare time he was very active. He enjoyed fishing, playing Mahjong, Tai chi and bike riding. At age 80 he learned to swim. Wing’s grandchildren were his treasure.
The family would like to thank his main care providers, Dr. Holly Kamitakahara. Dr. Naveen Basappa, Dr. Sarah Kwong and Dr. Jennifer Ringrose as well as the staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital, Unit 51 and 53 and the Cross Cancer Institute for their attention and compassionate care.
