BARBAZUK, Edward (Ed)

On April 11th, 2016, Edward (Ed) Barbazuk of Edson, Alberta passed away at the age of 83 years.

Ed is survived by his loving family: daughter Carol (Rob) Theaker of Strathroy, Ontario and their children and grandchildren; daughter Leslie (Simon Burns) Bowness of Enderby, British Columbia, grandsons Steven (Lindy) Beierle, great-grandchildren Remi and Carsten, grandson Kris Bowness (Katarina); daughter Laurie Barbazuk of Edmonton, Alberta and daughter Linda (Ken) Babyak of Edmonton, Alberta and their daughters Cerise and Brooke (Phil) and their children Jemma and Iva.

Also surviving are his siblings: Rick Barbazuk and family of Edmonton, Alberta, Ernie (Dianne) Barbazuk and family of St. Albert, Alberta, Gayle Ewasiuk and family of Kelowna, British Columbia and Diane (Rick) Love and family of Winfield, Alberta. There are numerous other relatives and a host of friends left to mourn.

Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife Anna on June 9th, 2014, his son Lyall in 1991, and his son-in-law Larry Bowness in 2011 as well as his parents Mary and Alex Barbazuk.

Ed was a hard worker and he often said, “If you’re going to do something, do it right.” As anyone who knew him will attest to, he practiced that every day of his life. He mentored many kids when they worked at the car wash in Edson and they learned the value of hard, honest work. And … if they didn’t know how to before, they soon learned to swear! There were no cleaner vehicles than his. The school buses and car wash were kept sparkling clean.

He never had many hobbies because he spent most of his hours working at one thing or another. He always found things that needed doing. He was that guy who could fix most anything with glue, nails or duct tape. He could take a watch apart and make it run or overhaul a truck motor.

When he and Ann owned the U Auto Wash, much of their social life revolved around the table at the back of the shop and they were often found sitting there with friends who would stop in to wash their vehicles; he’d call them in, buy them a coffee and have a visit.

One of the things he enjoyed the most was playing the slot machines. He and Ann made many trips to Vegas in their younger years. Later on they would go to Edmonton and the last decade found them at the Whitecourt casino where, if he didn’t do well, he at least “broke even”. It was one of his joys in life but since Ann passed he found the drive there very lonely. Indeed, he found life very lonely.

After 59 years of marriage he grieved her loss every hour of the day. His world had become a sad place and he tried hard to keep happy and busy. Sadly after almost two years of grief, his broken heart just stopped. It was the one thing that he wasn’t able to fix.

We take comfort knowing that he and Ann are together forever and Ed is once again the happy, laughing, teasing man that we all knew and loved.

Following cremation, a memorial service was held on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 at 1:00 PM in Foothills Memorial Chapel, 5040-6th Avenue, Edson, AB.

In lieu of other tributes, the family suggests donation be made to the Pioneer Cabin, 4836 – 7th Ave., Edson, Alberta, T 7E 1K8 in memory of Ed Barbazuk.
