On March 14th, 2013 Vicki Stanners passed away suddenly due to complications caused by ovarian cancer. Vicki is dearly missed by her husband Rob and daughters Mairi Stanners and Jennifer Mcdonald.
Also cherishing her memory are her brothers Eric Vance (Nancy) and Hugh Vance. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters in law Joan Nelson and Barbara Phillips and their families, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Vicki was predeceased by both her father Donald Vance and her mother Jean Vance.
Vicki was born in Arvida, Quebec but spent most of her childhood and early adulthood years in Ontario. She graduated from Queens University with an honors degree in English and History in 1976 and obtained her Teachers Certificate from The University of Toronto in 1977.
Vick moved to Alberta in 1977, first teaching in Grande Prairie for five years. She moved to Hinton from Ontario in 1988 and started teaching in the same year until her retirement due to the illness in June 2012. Vick loved teaching and never tired of it. She enjoyed being with her fellow teachers and especially her students. Each student was special and her goal was to help each one achieve their potential. She took her life long passion for reading and literature and tried to instill that love in her students.
Vicki loved living in Hinton and being close to the mountains. She enjoyed the company of her many friends. Throughout the years she hiked, Nordic skied and participated in many other activities. One of her favourite activities was trail running. She enjoyed the surroundings but most of all the people she ran with. Her running led to her participation as a team member in numerous Kananaskis 100 and Death Races.
She enjoyed participating as a volunteer in many community activities. She was a member of the Hinton Library Board for many years.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to either the Hinton Cancer Clinic or the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton in Vicki's Name
