Rob RATHGEBER
April 5, 1956 - October 30, 2013
It is with great sadness to his loving family and friends that Rob passed away at his home in Edson, Alberta on October 30, 2013 at the age of 57.
Rob is survived by his mother Ruth, his brother Lorne (Carol), his daughters Brandi (Rob) Kozakowski and Avril (Joey) Langlois, his grandchildren Ellis, Everleigh and Abigail, and his brother-in-law Del. Rob was pre-deceased by his sister Marge (Del) Unterschute, and his father Emil. Rob will also be deeply missed by his extended family and many friends.
Born and raised in Melville, Saskatchewan as the youngest of three children, Rob formed many life-long friendships in his younger years. He returned often to visit and vacation, and he had recently built a home at Crooked Lake to enjoy and share in his retirement with his family and friends. Rob attended the University of Saskatchewan, focusing his studies in accounting, before moving to Edson in 1981 with his young family where he would join a local CA firm and retire there in 2011 as a partner of the firm of Mergaert, Rathgeber, Barford, Williams and Joly. In Edson, Rob made many new friends with whom he regularly shared his love of the outdoors, culminating in the highlight of the year, their annual hunting trip. In his last years, he was especially excited to spend time with his grandchildren who thought the world of their Grandpa Rob.
The family offers a special thank you to Crystal, who helped care for Rob to the end, after he was recently diagnosed with a form of dementia.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service which was held on Monday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Edson Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta 10531 – Kingsway Ave., Edmonton, Alberta, T5K 4K1 or to Residential Aide Placement Services, Suite 208, 14925 - 111Ave., Edmonton, Alberta, T5M 2P6 in memory of Robert James Rathgeber.
