DYCK (SMITH), Rita Mary
Born October 20, 1940 in Saskatoon, SK
After a two year battle with cancer, Rita Dyck was surrounded by her family when she passed away in Hinton, AB on August 19, 2016.
Rita will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children; Lucinda (Darcy) Boutin, Wayne Dyck, Scott (Tracey) Dyck, Charlene (Jennifer) Houston; her grandchildren: Sierra (Trenton), Colton (Megan), Mason, Kaelyn, Kenna, Caleb, Ayla (Dylan) and Arie; her two great-grandchildren: Kennedy and Braxton. Also left to mourn are her sister Hazel (Don) Kinzie; her brother Bert Smith and her brother-in-law Ray Kimpton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Rita was predeceased by her parents, James and Ethel Smith; her sisters, Marge Bueckert and Hilda Kimpton and her brother Ed Smith.
Rita stayed home and worked on the family farm until the age of 18 when she left home to work in the Saskatoon City Hospital. She was married in 1962 and later relocated to Hinton with her family in 1973. As a stay at home mom, Rita loved children so much she decided to start a day home, this would give her the opportunity to watch her children grow as she worked. Rita also donated much of her time to the Girl Guide and Boy Scouts movements. Once her children were older, she decided to go back to school to obtain her GED so she could attend college to complete her secretarial course.
She loved to talk about her grandchildren and more recently her two great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She loved to spend her mornings having coffee with her friends she made in the Lions Manor where she lived for the last 20 years. Whenever there was a hockey game on the television, you could be sure that Rita was watching it, especially when the Oilers were playing. Rita enjoyed baking, knitting, playing bingo and cards and had a new found love of floor curling.
A celebration of Rita’s life will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in Hinton Good Companions Senior Citizen Centre, 250 Hardisty Ave. with Revered Bill Bulger officiating. An interment of Rita’s ashes will be done on a later date in Saskatoon, SK
