DONKIN, PATRICIA JEAN (née Fenton)
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Patricia on Saturday, August 13, 2016 in Edson at the age 78 years.
Patricia was born to John Thomas and Mary Helen Fenton on January 21, 1938 in Vermilion, Alberta. She was one of seven children. Patricia graduated from Vermilion High School in 1956 where she was also the graduation class valedictorian. A year later, on April 25, 1957 she married Richard Donkin. Together they had five children.
She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children: Alex (Shelly) Donkin, Brad (Andrea) Donkin, Krista (Gregg) Beier all of Edson, Alberta; her grandchildren: Kurtis (Abby) Wadley, Alysha (Darren) Grosky, Zack Donkin and Craig Donkin (Madison Wilkins), Kaeli MacLennan (Brandon Schwitz), Delainie Sutherland and Hailey Sutherland; her four great grandchildren: Max, Ada, Kate and Lauren; her siblings: Molly Lobreau, Kaye (Don) Aldag, Norma Fenton and Bryan Fenton. Also left to mourn are numerous relatives and a myriad of friends across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.
While raising her family, Patricia worked at North West Motors in Red Deer and she was a farm wife at Eagle Hill. After moving to Vermilion she helped Dick run a taxi and ambulance service and managed the Edmonton Journal and Greyhound bus depot. Later in life she owned Shining Stars Tea and Metaphysical House in Edson.
Patricia’s hobbies included reading, knitting and fishing. Her family was her passion and the most important to her, she had a big heart full of love which showed ten fold when she decided to sponsor a child in Brazil through World Vision. Patricia was proud of her spirituality and becoming a Reiki Master was one of her greatest achievements.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard Donkin and her children Frances and Kenneth Donkin; her brothers: John Fenton and Gerry Fenton.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Foothills Memorial Chapel, 5040 – 6th Avenue, Edson, AB with Alex Donkin officiating. A small family interment will be held in Vermilion at a later date.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Robinson for her ongoing kindness and consideration towards mom and to Dr. Gous and the staff at the Edson Hospital for their care and compassion during mom’s final days.
In lieu of other tributes, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Patricia’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
