On Monday, November 1, 2010, a long time resident of Edson, Nellie Amundsen passed away at the age of 100 years. She is survived by her daughter in law, Margaret Amundsen of Winnipeg, MB, her son in law Robert Dowling of Durham, ON, her grandchildren Keith (Kim) Amundsen of Winnipeg, MB, William (Rhonda) Amundsen of North Battleford, SK, Maureen (Robert) McIntosh of Winnipeg, MB, Melanie (Tim) Sturgeon of Brampton, ON, Kenneth and Stuart Dowling of Mississauga, ON, Kathy (Dave) Keough of Brampton, ON, 14 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
Nellie was predeceased by her daughter Lillian Dowling in 1981, her husband Alf in 1990, and her son Bill in 1992.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Parkland Lodge, the Edson Hospital and Homecare for their kindness and dedication while Nellie was in their care. Also a very special thanks to Adele and Rick Hamilton, Debbie Berkholtz, Pauline Reid and Arthur and Heather-Belle Dowling whose support made it possible for Nellie to stay in her beloved home and for their regular visits when she was at the lodge and the hospital. In lieu of other tributes, donations can be made to the Parkland Lodge, 4619 – 9th Avenue Edson, Alberta T7E 1R7.
Funeral Services for Nellie Amundsen took place on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Edson United Church with Reverend Kent Horsman Officiating. Interment followed this service at the Glenwood Cemetery, Edson, Alberta.
