Marie Doreen (Laderoute) Francis
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marie Francis on November 30th, at the University hospital in Edmonton.
Marie is survived by her children, daughter Arlene Martel and her son Andrew (Laura) Martel and grandchildren Nathan, William, Odin, Ivy and son Michael Martel, daughter Annette (Terry) Mann and grandson Riley, daughter Victoria (Marcus) Hughes and grandson Sean, granddaughters Rebecca (Dallas) Gurgens, Brittney Anderson and great granddaughter Briar, Son Kevin (Joanne) Francis and granddaughter Meghan and grandson Alexander.
Born in St. Paul, Alberta to Frank and Delphine Laderoute. Marie had 7 sisters and 1 brother. She was pre-deceased by sisters Arlene Laderoute, Victoria Laderoute and Elsie Murphy and brother Frankie Laderoute.
Marie leaves to mourn her sisters Emily Holdsworth, Lorraine (Ross) Francis, Patricia (Roy) Taylor and Gail Laderoute, also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marie’s family moved to Hinton in 1955, where her father helped build the mill and her mother cleaned camp trailers for the workers at the mill. Marie attended Mountain View School then went on to Harry Collinge High School. She married Bill Francis but divorced and remained friends. She worked in many places but is remembered for working at the Parklander where she remained until she retired.
Marie was very active in community events, fundraising, volunteer work and was frequently spotted at her kids sporting events either in the crowd cheering them on or participating as scorekeeper. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and worked at the senior’s community lodge.
Marie loved the outdoors, hiking and camping with family and friends. She attended many senior events to play bridge, crib or go to dances. She will be sadly missed at her last place of residence, Pine Valley Lodge, where she had many friends.
A celebration of life will take place at Our Lady of the Foothills Catholic Church in Hinton, Alberta on December 9, 2017 at 1 pm with Father Thomas officiating.
