November 19, 1929 – October 15, 2016

It is with deep sadness that family of Marguerita (Marge) Callihoo announce her passing on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Marge was the fifth child of nine born to parents Alfred (Fred) and Florence Gravel (nee Donnely) at home in Picardville, Alberta. Marge moved with her family to Hinton, Alberta in January of 1947 and met and married her soul mate, George Callihoo on December 1, 1947. Together they raised 10 children.

Marge was dedicated to her family and made a career of homemaking. Marge’s family was in her everyday practice and she leaves a loving family legacy. She spent most of her days baking, cooking and making her family and friends welcome in her home. There was always fresh coffee, homemade bread and some kind of soup boiling on the stove. It was important to her that the people who stopped in felt welcome. Marge was an active community member and was involved with and volunteered for many organizations until she suffered a severe stroke thirteen years ago.

Marge leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband of 68 years George, her children Yvonne Oshanyk, George (Janice) Callihoo, Richard (Linda) Callihoo, Deborah Callihoo, David Callihoo, Shane (Margo) Callihoo, Calvin (Carrie) Callihoo, Trevor (Laura) Callihoo, Donna (Glenn) Taylor. Grandchildren Nadine (James) Hansen, Robert Oshanyk (Tammy Porsnuk), Lisa (John) Higgerty and Chad Oshanyk, Stacey (Blaine) Dickerson and Christie (Darren Slafurek) Callihoo, Tanya (Gerald) Lemky, Roxanne (Darrell) Kwasny, Ricky (Kim) Callihoo and Chrissa Callihoo, Brandon (Hayley) Vandal, Tyson Callihoo, Taylor Barilla (Miles Jones) and Dakota Barilla, Danny Callihoo, Travis (Meghan) Calihoo, Chase Callihoo (Jordyn Coss) and Levi Calihoo, Alicia Callihoo, (Mark) Kosolowski), Kaitlin Callihoo (Adam Smith) Kelsea Taylor and Zach Taylor. She also leaves to mourn her brother Melvin (Carol) Gravel, Three sisters-in-law Mable, Elsie and Penny Gravel, 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, many other extended family and a host of friends. Marge was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Florence Gravel, sisters Violete L’Hirondelle and Evelyn Callihoo, brothers Edward, Alfred, Cyril, Edgar and Alphonse Gravel, by son Randolph Callihoo and son-in-law Dennis Oshanyk.

A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Of The Foothills Roman Catholic Church 124 Tamarack Ave in Hinton on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with Father Miroslav Kostarzewski as Celebrant. A reception will immediately follow in the lower hall of the church graciously served by the Hinton CWL. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Marge, memorial contributions may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & NU, 100-119 14 Street NW Calgary, Alberta, T2N 1Z6.
