Leonard L. Aldred
June 11, 1921 – February 2, 2018
Len passed away quietly at the age of 96 in Hinton, Alberta. He was the last of 6 siblings and was predeceased by his son Gerald in 2006.
Len is remembered with love by all his family. He is survived by Irene, his wife of 63 years, their children, Karen Aldred, Barry Aldred, Tracy (Maxime) Aldred, and Arlene (Tracy) Marcellus, his beloved grandchildren, Alix, Paige, Anthony, Jacie and Krystal (Sean) Coble, daughter in law, Jackie, and her sons’ Curtis (Maggie) Deptuk and Travis Szuchs.
Born and raised in N.Ontario, Len left school at age 13 to work at a variety of jobs including road construction, surveying, a steel mill labourer and as a hunting/fishing guide in a tourist camp. He especially had great memories and stories from that time in his life. Len married Irene in 1954, and then obtained his journeyman carpenter’s ticket the following year. After that, they moved to Hinton where they have called home ever since. Here he put his skills to use during the original construction of the pulp mill and the Jasper Park Lodge. Twenty-five years of employment with the pulp mill and Woodlands Division gave way to his retirement in 1985.
Len enjoyed a rich life with family and friends, which included camping, fishing and hunting, bowling, gardening and working in his carpentry shop. He could fix just about anything, loved to share stories, and had a wonderful memory for detail. Although his body was failing, his mind remained sharp to the end. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In honouring his wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will have a “Celebration of Life” at a later date. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Len, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation or a charity of your choice.
