BAXTER, Lena
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Lena Baxter of Jasper, AB on June 11th, 2012 at the age of 75 years, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Lena is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Bob of Jasper, AB. Also surviving are her children, sons John (Lorraine) Baxter of Calgary, AB and Ken (Joanne) Baxter of St. Albert, AB and her four grandchildren: Katie, Kristen, Danielle and Marc.
Lena was a wonderful wife and loving mother who always put her family first. She also immensely enjoyed her grandchildren that she was so proud of and loved to spoil. Lena led an active life in Jasper golfing, skiing, berry picking and doing numerous other outdoor activities. She was an avid gardener be it working in her flower garden in Jasper or vegetable garden at the family farm in Edson. Lena loved to cook and bake, providing her family and friends with many wonderful and memorable meals that she prepared. Lena freely gave of her time for many volunteer activities in the community of Jasper.
Lena is also survived by her siblings and their families: Adele (Dale) Bannerman of Edmonton AB, Iris Plesuk of Sherwood Park AB, Angela Corbett of Ontario, Dorothy Ross of Stettler AB, Willis (Gail) Gorda of Edmonton AB, Florence Giambruni of California and Anne Hreniuk of Mundare AB. There are numerous other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors left to mourn as well.
Lena was predeceased by her parents, John and Jennie Gorda as well as siblings Lillian Roberts, Nick Gorda, Metro Gorda, Tom Gorda, Victor Gorda and Morris Gorda.
In keeping with Lena’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a family graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of floral tributes, donations, if desired may be made to the Jasper United Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 967, Jasper, Alberta, T0E 1E0 in memory of Lena Baxter.
