WHEAT, Kenneth Claude

Born January 12th, 1926, Carbon, Alberta - Passed away December 14th, 2013

Ken was raised on the farm in Carbon, Alberta. He joined the “Calgary Highlanders” at 16 years old, serving overseas in the Second World War. He returned in 1945 and went to Mercoal for work, forever becoming a “Coal Brancher”.

There he met and married Doreen Stafford on July 11th, 1948.

Ken worked underground at McLeod River Collieries, and became a Fire Boss. In 1959 he joined the Alberta Forest Service, serving for over 27 years. He retired as Chief Ranger in 1987. Ken built their retirement log home in Robb, which gave him a great sense of pride and accomplishment.

In his retirement years, Ken enjoyed his time as a Director for the Yellowhead Gas Co-op. He also enjoyed fishing, quadding, baking, picking berries, making jams & jellies, and socializing with family and friends.

Ken is survived by: his son Perry (Lorraine) and grandchildren Nigel (Lorelle), Brenna, Nathan and great grandchildren Moya, Rankin, Remmington; daughter Pam (Len) and grandchildren Tracy (Stephan), Candace, Dustin and great grandchildren Joanne, Ashley, Brandon, Jared, Shelby and Tristan; and son Bud (Janet) and grandchildren Ian, Elise, Amy and Conor.

Ken was predeceased by his loving wife Doreen, his parents Perry and Nellie Wheat, sister Margaret Bushby and brother Bud Wheat. Ken is survived by his sister Alba Mihajlovich.

As requested by Ken, there will be no funeral services.

In lieu of floral tributes, donations if desired may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 10985 – 124 Street, Edmonton, Alberta – T5M 0H9 in memory of Kenneth Claude Wheat.
