Joyce Orla Thomsen of Hinton, AB passed away peaceful Apr 22, 2022, at the age of 82 at the Hinton Continuing Care Centre.
Joyce was born July 10, 1939, in Dahlton, Saskatchewan the 3rd child of Egil and Hilda Sandaker. She lived most of her childhood on a farm near Nacaim, Saskatchewan, later moving into town. Joyce and her best friend Lila worked as telephone operators in Nacaim. While working there she met and fell in love with Carl Thomsen. Joyce, Carl, Lila and Bruce Anderson moved together to Hinton in 1956. They married in a double wedding with Lila and Bruce in Jasper Dec 13, 1958.
Joyce's greatest joys were being with her family and socializing with friends. Joyce enjoyed playing softball, bowling, horseshoes, camping, playing cards, functions with Ladies of Moose and various other hobbies.
Joyce was survived by children Lyle of Hinton, AB, Shirley (Myles) Checkley of St Albert, AB, Bonnie (Bob Newman) Wiszniowski of Hinton, AB, Susan (John) Adams of Fort McMurray, AB and Dale (Hollie Belcourt) Thomsen of Hinton, AB. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren Craig (Hyacinth & Zilas Villanueva) Misanchuk of Hinton, AB, Melissa (Clark Thompson) Avery & Brynn Checkley of Wetaskiwin, Theresa (Roan Hunka) & Scarlett Checkley of St Albert, AB, Darek (Mary Cavanagh) Wiszniowski of Edmonton, AB, Erin (Mike Munro) Wiszniowski of Hinton and Blaine Thomsen of Hinton.
She was survived by sisters Laurel Koczka of Creighton, Saskatchewan, Inez Guttormson of Nacaim, Saskatchewan and Doreen of Gustufson of Emma Lake, Saskatchewan.
She was predeceased by husband Carl Thomsen in 1995, her parents Egil and Hilda Sandaker, sister Arlene Sandaker, brother Mart Sandaker and companion Paul Lirette
Funeral will take place Wednesday April 27th at 12:00 at the Grace Lutheran Church at 101 Sunwapta Drive, Hinton. Service lead by Pastor Bill Bulger. Lunch to follow service at the church. Joyce will be laid to rest along side Carl in the Hinton cemetery.
