Weyts, Joseph

February 25th, 1924 – January 31st, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Weyts, beloved husband of Frances (nee Gauthier) on January 31st, 2012 at the age of 87 years,

Besides his loving wife Frances, Joe is survived by his son Allan Joseph Weyts (Heather Mutch) and her children, Gerry (Nicole) and their family, Calieann, Marcus and Brie, Candace (Michel) Ducharme and their children Xavier and Chloe all of Bonnyville, Alberta; his son James Andrew Weyts (Cheryl Bolander) and his children Callyanne Weyts of Ponoka, Alberta, twins Colton James Weyts of Calgary, Alberta and Cale Andrew Weyts of Ponoka, Alberta and their mother Codyanne Bowie of Ponoka, Alberta. Also surviving are his sisters Laura McGowan and family and Joan Watson and family all of Red Deer, Alberta as well as his sister – in- law Marilynn (Robert) Joy and family of Edson, Alberta. There are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends left to mourn.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Achiel and Anna Weyts, three brothers, Marcel, John and Raymond and sisters Alice Ginther and Louise Schuell and brother and sister in law Doug and Doris Gauthier.

Joe worked for 18 years coal mining underground and 30 years with Federal Pioneer of Red Deer, building power transformers. He retired for this job in 1989. Joe was an awesome, loving man and showed it every day. He loved to fish, so we spent our summer vacations camping with the boys until they no longer wanted to go with us, then we went by ourselves. He so loved his grandchildren and towards the end he would ask me “Where are the kids” when I visited him. Joe bowled 5 Pin for many years and bowled several “perfect” games. He tended bar for several years after getting married and also did construction work for 6 years. Joseph loved jigsaw puzzles and we worked on them until the wee hours of the morning, and he enjoyed a good game of cards and board games, played mainly when the kids were still at home. He enjoyed all the trips we made to visit with family and friends. He was a very social man and loved to visit with all the neighbors around, but he could still be very private at times. Anyone who met him were instantly friends with him and he felt the same about them. So many loving tributes have come in, and I would like to thank all who sent caring condolences.

In keeping with Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place and services will be announced at a later date.
