GERLITZ, John Reginald ‘Reg’
Reg was born 'up the Branch' in Cadomin, AB, on March 19, 1933 and passed away in Edson on October 11, 2016, at the age of 83 years.
He is survived by his daughters Beverley and Gwynn (Mitch) and sons John (Candy) and William, sister Barbara Higgins, grandchildren Mark (Becky), Meghan (Jeff) and Annalise (Mike), John and Hailey, and great grandchildren Georgia, Adele, Lydia, Lily and Jasper. Reg was pre-deceased by his wife Julie, sister Helen, step mother Anne, brother in law Walter Higgins, father John and mother Delia.
Reg graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Commerce and worked with his father in Gerlitz Agencies, which later evolved into Insco Insurance. Reg married Juliette Poirier, the love of his life, and they raised their 4 children in Edson, later moving to Spruce Grove.
Reg was passionate about jazz, fishing and golfing, and was feared both on the golf course and at the ball diamond. Later in life, his grandkids and great grandkids became the focus of his world and they made music in an old man's heart.
Reg's feistiness and stubbornness served him well throughout his life. In his waning months, he was a model of strength and sheer determination right up to the end of his journey.
He will be missed and his spirit will forever remain, fishing in the half light of the Cardinal Valley.
A celebration of Reg's life will be held on Wednesday, October 19 at 1:30 pm at the Edson Galloway Museum, 211 55 Street.
As an expression of sympathy and in memory of Reg, please consider a donation to the Edson Animal Rescue Society PO Box 7028 Edson, AB T7E 1V3.
