Herbert (Bert) Alfred Becker
Herbert (Bert) Alfred Becker, born February 17th, 1928 suddenly passed away at his farm in Peers, on Friday September 20th, 2013.
Bert had a busy life he started working away from home at the age of 15 years. He worked in lumber camps, clearing land, hauling freight and cattle. He formed Becker Cat work in 1978 and worked cats and equipment for years. During this time he still continued to haul cattle. He finally parked his big truck in 1991. But, being a farmer and being Bert who couldn’t sit still, he never truly retired. Up until the spring of 2011 he continued to cut his own fire wood for his wood stove. Still at the age of 85 years old his biggest summer project was getting hay for his 4 remaining Highland Steers
Bert is survived by his dear friend Darlene Welsh, four sons & their families. Herbert & Janice, Robert, Joe & Verlene, Andy & Darlene. His grandchildren Krystal, Kelvin, Murray, Andrea, Jane & Rayna. His Great grandchildren Blake, Tanner & Blaire. His sisters Lucy& Bernice. Bert was predeceased by his wife Ann in 2003, his father Henry in 1976, his mother Oda in 1991 and his sister Claira in 2008.
Funeral services for Herbert (Bert) Becker took place on Friday, September 27th, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Fulham Community Hall, Fulham, Alberta with Pastor George Stone officiating. Interment will follow in the McLeod Valley Cemetery, McLeod Valley, Alberta.
In lieu of other tributes, donations if desire may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, in care of The Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Ave., Edmonton, Alberta, T6G 1Z2 or to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Herbert (Bert) Becker.
