BOWNESS, Hazel Jean (nee Larsen)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Hazel Jean Bowness, beloved wife of Sumner Bowness, on February 25, 2016 at the age of 82 years.
Besides her loving husband Sumner, Hazel is survived by her daughter Darleen Burkinshaw and son Michael of Stettler, Alberta as well as grandsons Kristopher Bowness of Calgary, Alberta and Steven (Lindy) Beierle and great grandchildren Remington and Carston of Red Deer, Alberta.
Also surviving is her brother Lloyd (Thelma) Larsen and family of Edmonton, Alberta as well as other relatives and many friends.
Hazel was predeceased by her son Larry (Leslie) Bowness in 2011, her parents Bennet and Ethel Larsen and brothers Leonard and Harold Larsen.
Hazel will be forever remembered for her caring ways and devotion to her family. Always thinking of others, she also had great determination and strong will in battling Multiple Sclerosis over the past 40 years. Her contribution to documenting the history of the area in the Peers History book “Rivers, Roads and Prose” will long be enjoyed by others who have lived in this community.
In keeping with Hazel’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A time for sharing stories and memories to honor Hazel’s life will be held April 30, 2016 at 2 PM at the Peers Multiplex in Peers, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel’s memory, may be designated to MS Research at The University of Alberta Hospital Foundation https://www.universityhospitalfoundation.ab.ca/Tribute_Memorial or to a charity of the donor's choice.
