The official obituary of

Glen Paul Hellekson

December 28, 2016

HELLEKSON, Glen Paul

The family of Glen, age 82 of Peers AB, announces his peaceful passing on December 28, 2016.

Glen will be missed by his wife Lois, his daughter Laurie (Bruce) Young and their boys Garrett and Connor of Peers, AB, his son Mitchell (Lori) and their children Cole and Morgan of Yellowhead County, AB and his step daughter Sandra (Bill) Francis of Edson, AB. Also, his loving siblings who visited and called him regularly. His sister Glady’s Bowness, brother Melvin (Minola) Hellekson, brother Bud (Donna) Hellekson, sister Shirley (Leonard) Minelli and brother in-law Reg Spallin (Ruby). Glen is survived by many other family members and friends.

Glen’s wish was to be in his home until his journey ended. With the care and support from his wife Lois and family he could be in his home until the last week of his life. Glen loved his family and becoming a grandfather was one of the greatest moments of his life. He was very proud of his kids and grandchildren. We all have great memories and laughs of Glen to remember and hold close to our hearts. Glen was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2004 and surprised all of us by stepping up to the challenge of doing peritoneal dialysis at home, in his truck, cabin, or holiday trailer. He loved seeing his peritoneal team from Edmonton; he thought they were the greatest group of girls around.

Glen loved fishing, camping, a good old Pilsner beer, a Wilf Carter song, dancing, spending time at his farm and most of all seeing his grandkids. Next time you hear “There’s a Tear in my Beer” think of Glen; he loved that song!

Thank you to all of you who came and visited or called Glen over the years. Your visits and calls made his day and he loved telling us who he chatted with each day.

Thank you to all the staff from Edson Home Care and Marilyn from McLeod River Primary Care for your support over the last few years. Without your help, Glen, wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the comforts of being home.

In keeping with Glen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a small family farewell for Glen will be held later at his favourite place, his farm.

In lieu of other tributes, donations if desired may be made to the Home Peritoneal Dialysis Unit, University Hospital Aberhart Centre, Room 8118 11402 University Ave, Edmonton, AB T6G 2J3 in Memory of Glen Hellekson.

A limb has fallen from our family tree

that says grieve not for me.

Remember the best times, the laughter, the song

the good life I lived while I was strong.
