The official obituary of

Geraldine Gillies

August 8, 1951 — May 31, 2014

GILLIES (KELLY), Geraldine August 8th, 1951 ~ May 31, 2014

Peacefully with her daughter Donna and her special friend “like a daughter” Sandy by her bedside, Geraldine (Geri) Gillies passed away in the early hours of Saturday, May 31st after a long battle with chronic liver disease.

Geri is survived by her husband of 14 years Larry Gillies, his daughter Tammy (Dave), Tammy’s son Kyle and his children Sadie, Hunter. Tammy's daughter Lyndsey and predeceased by Chelsey. Geri is also survived by her daughter Donna (Robert) Thompson, grandchildren Claudia & Spencer of Nanaimo, brothers Doug (Cathie) Kelly, David Tweet, Robert Kelly and sister Mary-Lou Tweet and step mother Angie Kelly, many aunties, uncles & cousins, and two very special people, her friends “like a daughter” Sandy and husband Bill Hemsworth (children Dylan, Robbie, and Chris).

Predeceased by her mother Penelope Kelly and father Douglas Arthur Kelly.

Geri called Cedar-by-the-Sea, Nanaimo, BC home for many years, with first husband, Don Smith, raising Donna and there she had many life long friends. Her next chapter started with meeting Larry Gillies in Mayerthorpe, AB in 1994. They were married in 2000 in Edson, AB. The two of them moved around a lot including moving to Vancouver Island several times but always returning to Alberta. She had lots of love for puzzles, second hand stores, and LOTS OF BOOKS! Her company at bingo will be missed as well as her fresh baked bread and tummy yummies. We could go on and on…..

A celebration of life was held on June 2nd, 2014 at her favourite restaurant, The Castle, with her family and close friends in attendance.

A celebration of life for her Vancouver Island family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, donations if desired may be made to donor’s charity of choice in memory of Geraldine Gilles.
