GEORGE ELVIN (Al) MILLER
Al was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and he was the youngest of four boys. But also became the brother to five other siblings later on in life. Al worked for many years for Mayflower Trucking in Winnipeg and then moved to Edson in 1978. He started working at Luscar Sterco Ltd. (Coal Valley) at the encouragement of his brother Mel Miller, He worked at Coal Valley for 32 years and developed some very strong friendships over the years.
Al’s love for horses started at a very early age while living in Winnipeg but upon moving to Edson he bought his beloved horse Shadow, who he had for 26 years. Due to this love, he had many horses over the years and was an active member of the Edson Gymkhana Club and Wildwood Club. Most recently became an expert at Bidding Wars, and loved it but hated it when he was outbid.
Al is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marlene, and his four children: Brigitte Goar of Kincardine, Ontario, Marlene (Steve) Fontaine of Calgary, Alberta, Wanda (Dave) Miller of Spruce Grove, Alberta and Allan Miller of Edson, Alberta. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Melissa, Dylan, Ryley, James, Shaneen, Justin and Niki and one great granddaughter Mya. Al was predeceased by his parents Ernie Miller of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Rose Russel of Mission, British Columbia, and brother Mel Miller of Surrey, British Columbia.
Over the years Al enjoyed many laughs with family and friends near and far. He always had a twinkle in his eye and loved to pull practical jokes and make people laugh. Although, the last few years weren’t the best for him health wise he still always had his humor and a smile on his face.
His love for Marlene, Brigitte, Marlene, Wanda and Allan and his grandkids showed every time he spoke of them or spent time with them.
“Rest in peace, you are no longer in pain and free to ride Shadow with all your rowdy friends”
