McNEIL, GEORGE “JOE” DARCY
It is with great sorrow that the family of George “Joe” Darcy McNeil announces his passing after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness on October 27, 2011 at the age of 52. Joe passed away peacefully in Grande Cache, Alberta.
Joe was one of seven children born to the late Mr. George McNeil and Mrs. Mary “Minnie” McNeil and was the beloved fiancée of Christine Labordus and father of Somer. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his devoted brothers –Todd (Tammy), Danny ( Kristie), Ray (Bev), Chuck (Mary), Bill (Jacquie) and numerous nephews and nieces along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.
He was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on April 20, 1959 and moved with his family to Grande Cache, Alberta at the age of ten. He finished his education in Grande Cache and worked in the mine as an underground miner. Joe was pre-deceased by his loving father George in 1984 and his sister Iris in 1995. He enjoyed life and was an avid outdoorsman prior to his illness. He enjoyed music and technology and spending time with his family.
Joe touched the lives of many people and maintained his trademark sense of humour to the end. Friends and family were invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Parish in Grande Cache, Alberta at 10:00 am with Father Mark McGee officiating. The family requests all donations be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, 10985 – 124 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, T5M 0H9 in memory of George Darcy McNeil.
