George Timothy Callihoo

March 3, 1929 – May 14, 2017

It is with great sadness the family of George Callihoo announce his passing at the age of 88. George had been a resident of the Mountain View Centre Good Samaritan Society in Hinton, Alberta at the time of his death. George moved in to the centre with his wife to support her when she suffered a severe stroke 13 years ago.

George was the eldest child of eight born to Pierre Joseph Callihoo and Louise Anne Callihoo (nee Lake) at the family home near Calahoo, Alberta. George moved with his family to Hinton, Alberta in the fall of 1944. He went to work at a logging operation in the area. He started out as a labourer, packing and piling lumber. He worked his way up the ladder doing various jobs in sawmills. In 1947, a young lady named Margarita Gravel moved to Hinton and before the year was finished they were married. In 1955, they moved from Hinton for employment. They moved away but Hinton was always their home. They moved back on 3 different occasions and in 1964 they moved back for good. George tried his hand at various careers, sawyer, truck driver, cat-skinner, but ended it as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic. George was a hard worker, respected by his employers and co-workers. He retired from the local pulp mill at the age of 65. George and Marge continued to live their lives in Hinton even in retirement. George was a kind & generous man dedicated to his family. He loved being around his children and grandchildren. George’s real career was taking care of Marge and their ten children which he never retired from. He was dedicated to that career until the last day.

George leaves to mourn his loss, brother Hugh Callihoo and his children Yvonne Oshanyk, George (Janice) Callihoo, Richard (Linda) Callihoo, Deborah Callihoo, David Callihoo, Shane (Margo) Callihoo, Calvin (Carrie) Callihoo, Trevor (Laura) Callihoo, Donna (Glenn Taylor) Callihoo, Grandchildren (Nadine (James) Hansen, Robert Oshanyk (Tammy Porsnuk), Lisa (John) Higgerty, and Chad Oshanyk (Jordan MacLean), Stacey (Blaine) Dickerson, and Christie (Darin Slafurek) Callihoo, Tanya (Gerald) Lemky, Roxanne (Darrell) Kwasny, Ricky (Kim) Callihoo, Chrissa Callihoo, Brandon (Hayley) Vandal, Tyson Callihoo, Taylor Barilla (Miles Jones), Dakota Barilla, Danny Callihoo (Cindy Loff), Travis (Meghan) Callihoo, Chase Callihoo (Jordyn Coss), Levi Callihoo, Alicia Callihoo (Mark Kosolowski), Kaitlin (Adam) Smith, Kelsea Taylor, Zach Taylor. 31 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren and many other extended family and a host of friends.
