It is with great sadness that the family of Fredrick John Munn announces his passing on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in Hinton, Alberta, at the age of 71.
Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Jan, and his daughters, Lindsay (David) and Kyla (Jon). Fred’s passion for life will live on in his four grandchildren, Kaiden, Jack, Karter and Kate. Fred is survived by his sister Maureen (Michael), his brother Dick, nieces and nephews.
It was Fred’s career as a Mining Engineer that brought Fred and Jan to Hinton over 40 years ago but it was the wonderful friends and lifestyle that made Hinton their forever home. Fred had a rewarding career as an Engineer at Cardinal River Coal. Fred and Jan quickly adapted to the outdoor lifestyle that Hinton offered and enjoyed cross country skiing, biking, hiking and camping in the mountains, canoeing the lakes and rivers. As a runner, Fred put many miles on the trails around town as he trained for his next marathon. Over the years, Fred was involved in many organizations that helped to improve and showcase his community, including chairing the Alberta Winter Games, United Way, and Grande Yellowhead School Division Trustee.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Good Samaritan Society, Mountain View Centre, for their kind and compassionate care.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held in the Spring.
As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Fred, memorial donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Society - Mountain View Centre - Hinton or the Alzheimer Society of Alberta.
