It is with heavy hearts that the family of Eva Lorraine (Lori) Gurney share the news of her passing after a horrific car accident that occurred on the Friday of the long weekend.
Left to mourn are children Sherry Brown, Shawn (Pam) Brown and Tina Gurney; Grandchildren Megan Marchewka, Brandi Brown (Craig Marshall), Colten Brown, Cody Brown, Austin Brown, Hanna Burnett-Gurney and Bob Severson (Grandson-in-law). Fondly loved by Great Grandchildren, Neveah, Drayden and Brenley Severson as well as Vincent and Declan Marshall. She was also survived by brother-in-law and friend Steve Gurney. She had a very close relationship with brother Bill Sumners and lifelong friends Dixie Reay and Ruby Barrett. Lori was predeceased by her husband and beloved Jack “Grizz” Gurney and son-in-law Bruce Burnett.
Lori lived a simple life, traveling in her younger years that took her all over northern Alberta and BC and into the Yukon and Alaska areas. She returned to settle in the Peers area to be near her family. She spent the last couple decades in the hamlet of Peers enjoying time with her loved ones, attending bingo and quietly mourning the love of her life “Grizz”. She was actively involved with her great grandchildren and enjoyed nothing more than an afternoon with them. Prior to settling in Peers, she was well known for her landlord skills at large apartment complexes in both Whitecourt and Edson, many of her tenants became extended family. She was a good cook and prepared fabulous meals out of the most meager of groceries and any that joined her table were welcome to enjoy a cup of coffee or a drink of Diet Coke along with a game of dice. Lori was not a material wanting person, she relished in conversation, friendship and the love of her family.
At this time, the family has decided not to have a service as they take time to mourn the loss of her presence in their lives. She is once again reunited with Jack and the family will gather in the future to pay tribute to both of them.
The family also asks that should you wish to honor Lori, please do so by donating to STARS ~ a worthy cause that played a critical role in her final days.
