BENSON, Dorothy Lenore
Dorothy Lenore Benson, a long-time resident of Hinton, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 30, 2017 at Pine Valley Lodge in Hinton, Alberta at the age of 88 years. Dorothy was born on April 12, 1928 in Leslie, Saskatchewan but lived in many different places throughout her childhood. Dorothy married Robert Benson on June 10th, 1946. They lived in a number of different places during their marriage (Vancouver, Edmonton, Dapp, Whitecourt and High Level), moving to Hinton in 1974. For many years she owned Curio Castle, a very popular gift shop. There was nothing that Dorothy enjoyed more than visiting with people and she continued to do so when she moved to Pine Valley Lodge. Her family and friends were precious to her.
She will be sadly missed by her son Jim Benson and his family; granddaughter Jeanette (John) Labrecque and great granddaughters Samantha and Ashley-lynn; granddaughter Crystal (Mike) Moore and great grandchildren Skylor and Serina; granddaughter Charlene Benson (Byron Lockhart), and granddaughter Chelsi Benson (Vern Lind); and her daughter Linda (Robbie) Erickson and her family; granddaughter Michelle Erickson and great grandsons Connor and Kelton; granddaughter Andrea Erickson. Dorothy is also survived by her sister in law Joan Lyons and her family as well as many other family and friends.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Robert Benson, her parents Don and Germina, and her brother Don.
A public service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday April 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pine Valley Lodge. Cremation has already taken place at Edson, Alberta. There will be a family memorial service in Dapp, Alberta at a later date.
