On Saturday, January 15, 2011, Christy Dickie, formerly of MacKay and lately of Hinton, passed away peacefully at the Misericordia Hospital following complications from hip surgery. Christy was born on December 19, 1925 to Jim and Bell Delano. She spent most of her life in MacKay where she raised her two children, Pat and Blair. Christy enjoyed teaching and nurtured many children during her career. She was well-respected and made life-long friends of many of her students and their families. She loved living in MacKay, enjoying the outdoors, interacting with family and friends and participating in numerous community events. Christy’s fondness for animals meant there were always dogs and cats in the household. That love of animals was passed on to Blair. Christy was known for her wisdom, kindness and willingness to help others. She gave generously to her church family and other charitable organizations in her efforts to support others.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Sid and sister-in-law, Fay. Christy is survived by daughter, Pat, son-in-law, Don and grandson, Jeremy, and son, Blair, along with numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Christy had especially close relationships with her nieces Linda Auriat and Janet Bulmer, nephew, Barry Delano and their families. Christy was cherished by her close friends, Joy Clark and Cheryl Poirier who were there for her during her fight with cancer.
Special thanks to the staff at Home Care for their compassionate care of Christy while she was at home, the Hinton Hospital staff, and the staff at her second home, Mountain View Centre (Good Sam’s) for their care and love. We would also like to thank Dr. K. Sorenson for her care and kindness that went above and beyond. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Joan Graves, Marilyn Archibald, Pat Richardson and Barb Meredith for their kindnesses and keeping Christy close to their hearts.
Christy will be forever remembered for her grace and dignity, warm smile and encompassing love. If friends and family so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 201, 9452–51 Avenue Edmonton, Alberta T6E 5A6, the Hinton SPCA, Box 5175, Hinton, Alberta, T7V 1X4, or NABIS, 229 Royal Alex Place, 10106 111 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5G 0B4. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Gateway Community Church Hinton AB. A private family interment of her urn will take place in the spring.
