FONTAINE, Christina
It is with extreme sadness that on June 23rd we said good-bye to our mother and grandmother, Christina Fontaine. It was on this day that this strong and courageous woman lost her third battle with cancer. She leaves behind her beloved daughter Tina and two grandchildren, Eryn and Justin, which she adored. She will also be missed by nieces, nephews and friends. Chris was a businesswoman, volunteer and artisan. She worked with the love of her life Dick and together they ran two business and she also managed the Credit Union in its early years. They both spent many hours volunteering for various organizations and when there was a cause the she felt strongly about, she was the first one on the bandwagon to bring attention to the issue. Helping to bring awareness to the possible closure to the local hospital with regionalization and senior housing were some of her projects. She was also well known for her knitting and crafting skills, which were proudly displayed within her home as well as with many who received them as gifts. She made a large version of the RCMP Crest of Arms done in petit point, which she donated to the Fallen Four Museum in Mayerthorpe in honor of the members that lost their lives, one of which was a distant cousin of hers. It hangs there today. Although she is no longer with us in this place as we know it, she has left us with many memories and the legacy of the way she led her life and encouraged others to live theirs with honesty and compassion.
Interment and a Mass of Remembrance to follow at a later date. Tributes may be made in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society for breast cancer research, the New Edson Healthcare Centre or to the Whispering Pines Lodge in Grande Cache.
