BLUM, Barbara
Barbara Blum of Edson, Alberta, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2011 at the age of 101 at the Parkland Lodge. She came from a family of 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Following her father and sister Mary in 1938, she, along with her stepmother and siblings Mike, John, Olga, Helen and Jim immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine. Her brother Bill remained behind in the Ukraine. The family traveled on the ship the “Montrose” to Halifax, then by train to Wolf Creek, Alberta.
Marrying Albert Blum in 1938, with family and friends, built a house in the Droston District where she lived for 30 years. She spent her time gardening, canning for winter, sewing, working on the farm and raising her children. In 1968 she moved to Edson, where she resided until the time of her passing.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband Albert, infant daughters Mary and Jean, son Edward (Irene), mother Yustina, father Peter Bohoslawyc, stepmother Anastasia, sister Mary Paschak and brothers Bill, Mike, John and Jim.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Al Jason (Sylvia) his children Wendy and Diane; Helen (Dean) Componi and their children Kenny, Shelly (Randy) Vance, Terry, Tammy (Scott); Ernie (Carol) Blum and their children Stacey (Marcel), Wade (Val); Stacey (Connie), Dawn (Carl), along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her sisters Olga Roman and Helen Serafin.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Edson, Alberta followed by an interment in Glenwood Cemetery in Edson, Alberta.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Parkland Lodge, Dr. Willis, and Home Care for their care and compassion of Mom.
