JORGENSEN, Arthur Otto

Dr. Arthur Otto Jorgensen of Edson, Alberta passed away February 19, 2011 at the age of 83. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta January 29, 1928. Art is remembered by his loving wife Ivy, of 55 years; his son Jens (Ethel) Jorgensen of Wildwood; grandchildren: Leslie (Graham) Olson of Athabasca, Robert Jorgensen of Wildwood; great grandchildren Ace and Carl Olson of Athabasca. Also surviving is his brother Arnold (Joyce) Jorgensen of Drayton Valley and many nieces, nephews, and numerous family friends. Art was predeceased by his parents Jens and Olga Jorgensen.

Arthur spent over 50 years involved with education. He was very involved with the Alberta Teachers’ Association, Math Council of the Alberta Teachers’ Association, and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation. He was a Project Overseas participant six times. He volunteered on many community boards. He was active in the Kinsmen Club and the K-40 and was also active in the political arena.

Arthur loved to be with people. He loved animals and nature. His hobbies were reading, playing cards, traveling and cars. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date.

A Celebration Of Life Gala was held Friday February 25, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Edson & District Recreation Complex (Golf Course), #1 – Golf Avenue, Hwy 16, Edson, Alberta.

In lieu of other tributes, donations can be made to the Edson Hospital to be used for a respite room in the new Edson Hospital, 4716 – 5 Avenue, Edson, Alberta, T7E 1S8, in memory of Arthur Jorgensen.
