Alida Plante (Saulnier), 79, of Edson, Alberta passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Edson Hospital on Friday, January 27, 2012. She will be remembered by her beloved husband George, who she recently married in July of 2010, and his family; her children: Wayne (Leanne) Saulnier of Niton Junction, Alberta; Cary Hipkin of Kelowna, B.C.; and Tammy (Lanny) Solem of Fort Assiniboine, Alberta. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: Michelle, Justine, Duane, Michael, Dylan, Rebecca, and Rachel; and also an honorary Grandmother to Robert. Many friends will also miss her. Always having an adventurous spirit, Alida immigrated to Canada from Holland at the age of twenty-five. She is pre-deceased by her father and mother Harm & AnjeKoster, and also brother Reint Koster and sister Evelien. She leaves behind her sisters: Herma (Luuk) Van “t Hoff; Evelien Koster (Hans van der Ham); Marijke (Huik) Moes; sister-in-law Ria Koster; nephews and nieces Robert Koster, Mark (Ilonka) Koster, Anja Van "t Hoff, Bas Van "t Hoff, Wouter Harmse, Rosalie Harmse (Joao Manuel Duarte Felqueires Nunes Martins), Stefan Moes, and Anna Moes; great nephews and nieces Timber, Isa, Annabell, and Manuel.
Alida spent many years in the Edson area, and owned “The Home Decorating Centre”. She will be remembered for her great skill in business administration, her volunteer work with various community groups, and her great love of the arts.
A memorial service will be held at the Edson Friendship Centre on Thursday, February 2, 2012 @ 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Edson Healthcare Centre, Palliative Care, 4716 – 5 Avenue, Edson, Alberta, T7E 1S8, or to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, T6G 1Z2, in memory of Alida Plante.
