PELKE: Mr. Alfred Pelke a long time resident of Edson, Alberta passed away peacefully on July 11, 2016 at the age of 90 years. Alfred was born on September 12, 1925 at Bruderheim, Alberta to parents Fredrick and Paulina Pelke.
Alfred was part of a large family of 11 and as was common at that time, he left home at a young age. Venturing out on his own he started looking for work and found a job at Mercoal, Alberta, but was not old enough so he lied about his age. At the age of 22 years he developed Polio and his mother had to take care of him. Later, in May of 1960 he received his certification through Universal Motors Ltd. as a small motor mechanic. Following this he worked for Jack Natarack Garage in Edson. Later was employed with Earl Kelly at Edson Logger Supply which was later bought by Ron Slender and renamed Ron’s Outdoors and worked there until he retired.
Alfred had many pastimes he very much enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing bingo and spent many hours people watching. He was a self taught musician and could play the accordion, banjo and the guitar and played for many old time dances with his brother Ferd.
Alfred is survived by his siblings Edith, Elsie, Lydia, Fredia and Elmer. He will be greatly missed by Eileen and her family, Norman and by his favourite furry friend Auzzie as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of dear friends.
He was predeceased by siblings Ferd, Emile, Erna, Rudolf and Martha.
