It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of William at the age of 87 years. He will be missed immensely by his family and friends.
William was born in Eriksdale, Manitoba to John (Bill) William Miller and Mary Desjarlais. He married the love of his life, Vanessa Tanton, on December 5, 1959 in Edmonton, Alberta. He was predeceased by his soulmate, Vanessa; son, William Andrew Miller; sister, Bertha; sister, Pansy; half-brother Lorne Peterson; his father, John; step-father, Jonas Axel Peterson; and mother, Mary. He is survived by four children: Heather (Paul) Fitt, Edwina Miller, Carmen Miller, and Christopher Miller; five grandchildren: Ashley (James) Roberts, Jeremy Fitt, Alyssa Miller, Andrew Miller, and Jared Miller; one great-grandchild: Tallulah Miller; half-sister Lorna (Bill) Murka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
William joined the Canadian Forces in 1956. He was a member of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and Canadian Airborne Regiment, serving until 1979. Following his time in the military, he worked in health and safety at Cardinal River Coals. He was a highly respected member and volunteer with the Royal Canadian Legion, serving as Branch President for many years. William was an avid reader and loved watching movies. He was known for his sense of humour, quips and witticism, and he enjoyed telling jokes. From childhood, he had a deep love for animals and had many pets throughout the years. William was a beloved member of the communities of Hinton, Wainwright, and Pierceland.
As per the wishes of William, there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command Poppy Trust Fund or Valour Place in his name.
