Wanda passed away in her sleep and left behind a daughter: Cindy (Steve); a son: Marven (Vicki); and three grandchildren: Ceri, Tonya and Benjamin.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Kenneth and all her siblings: Bruce, Robina, Marvin, Juanita and Catherine.
Wanda was born in Edmonton, as the hospital in Jasper hadn't been built yet. She was born and raised in Jasper. She became a nurse at Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton and was the public health nurse in Jasper for some years. She married Ken in 1954 and they lived in a little one room shack for a few years, saving up to build a house.
Cindy arrived in 1958, and they built the house in 1960. "Wanda held up the walls, while Ken nailed on the roof", was how they described the experience.
Women tended not to go back to work when they had children back then, so Wanda was a homemaker. She worked in the summers... at Perriers, Smittys, Q Mart and Parks Canada. She enjoyed gardening (especially flowers), baking, travel, puzzles of all sorts and card games. She did a lot of volunteering and was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and the United Church.
She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wanda’s memory may be made to The Bissel Center (10527 96 St, Edmonton, AB T5H 2H6), The Mustard Seed (102 11 Avenue Southeast, Calgary, AB T2G 0X5) or local food banks.
