With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Virgilio Huliganga, 73, of Hinton, Alberta. He passed away on March 9, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born to Teofilo and Josefina Huliganga, on October 26, 1952, in Naguilian, La Union, Philippines. Virgilio was known as “Bebong” and “Gil” but was most renowned as a hardworking man. He received a degree in Mechanical Engineering at FEATI University, Manila, Philippines and was overall an intelligent man.
Virgilio worked in Saudi Arabia as a Mechanical Engineer from 1986 to 1997, then immigrated with his family to Canada on August 19, 1998. In Canada, he worked as a Core Receiver at OEM Remanufacturing Finning and worked there until he retired in 2024.
He married Gudelia Huliganga on December 22, 1975, his first and only love, who survives him. Virgilio is also survived by his children, Sherlyne Javier and husband Jude Javier, Allan Huliganga, Max Huliganga and wife Michelle Huliganga, as well as his four grandchildren Karina Celeste Javier, Tristan Jude Javier, Jacob Huliganga, and Jared Huliganga. His siblings Ernesto Huliganga and wife Imelda Huliganga, Thelma Boco and husband Ernesto Boco also survive him.
His extended family includes: Teresita, Tisha, Ana Mae, Jaime, Trisha, Jeremy, Jordan, Thalia, Donna, Chris, Cedric, Cheska, Armela, Andrei, Edwin, Emy, Kevin, Tin-tin, Krystal, Leo, Jetro, Nico, Carlo, and Corazon.
Virgilio was known to be an avid music and movie lover, his favorite music genre being country music, and one of his favorite movies being “Home Alone”. In his spare time, he enjoyed target shooting, fixing cars, watching political news, but most of all, spending time with his loved ones, especially his four grandchildren. Virgilio was also known as a “jack of all trades” − he was a mechanic, electrician, vacuum repairman, a plumber and a handyman.
Virgilio’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Our Lady of the Foothills Catholic Church. Hinton, Alberta.
