On October 22, 2023, Velma Victoria Rezansoff passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 86, in the Edson Continuing Care Center.
Velma was born on October 20, 1937, in Kamsack, SK, to Fred and Mabel Strellaeff. Being the eldest of four daughters, she loved growing up on a sheep farm in the Fort Pelly area.
She met her husband Johnny at a community dance and many love letters later, they married on November 14, 1956. They settled on Johnny's grandfather's farm in the Pelly area and had two daughters, Tami and Shelly. In 1975, their first grand daughter Nichole was born. Velma and Johnny played a pivotal role in raising Nichole providing love, guidance and support.
Velma took great pride in cooking and loved feeding everyone, often having a feast ready in case someone stopped by. The family farm became a hub of memorable events—filled with delicious food, rowdy card games, midnight hide-and-seek games, and endless fun.
After the death of Johnny in January 2011, Velma moved to Edson, AB, to be closer to her daughters. She kept herself busy meeting new friends, volunteering at the Edson Food Bank, bowling, playing cards and endless deals at garage sales.
Velma was a thoughtful, caring person who always found herself surrounded by love, laughter, family and friends.
Velma is survived by her daughter Shelly (Leonard), her grandchildren Nichole (Rob), Stephanie (Cody), and Jordan (Jessica), as well as seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her sisters Nancy and Pauline (Monte) also mourn her loss. She is predeceased by her parents, sister Judy, husband Johnny, and daughter Tami.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Edson's Continuing Care for their outstanding care.
A memorial will be held at a later date, when she will join her husband Johnny at Peaceful Cove Cemetery in Pelly, SK.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local food bank—a fitting tribute to spread Velma’s love and compassion.
