Velda Mary Anderson passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2025, at the age of 74 in her home at the Continuing Care facility, in Hinton, Alberta surrounded by love.
Velda was born on January 20th, 1951, in Corner Brook, NL, where she grew up and later welcomed her first child, son Randy. She later met and married Gerald Anderson and moved to Irishtown and had two daughters, Denise and Amanda.
Velda worked hard throughout her life, holding jobs as a waitress and housekeeper while raising her children. She later returned from Fort Nelson, BC to Irishtown to allow Denise to finish high school. During that time Amanda was born. Velda stayed in Irishtown until Amanda was fourteen, at which point they moved to Ontario, and shortly after, to Fort Nelson to be closer to Denise and her family. There, Velda worked and built a wide circle of wonderful friends.
After retiring, Velda moved to Hinton, Alberta in 2015 to live with Denise and Harry. She spent eight cherished years in their home before transitioning to the Hinton Continuing Care facility in March 2023. While there, she made many close friendships that brought her joy and comfort in her final years.
Velda was known for her infectious smile, gentle spirit, and kind heart. She loved playing cards and throwing darts and brought warmth and laughter wherever she went. Her caring nature touched the lives of everyone who met her, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and friendship.
She is survived by her children: Randy (Mabel) of Surrey, BC; Denise (Harry) of Hinton, AB; and Amanda (Mike) of Coaldale, AB. Grandchildren: Ashley (Ashley) of Kingston, ON; Tamara (Garrett) of Stony Plain, AB; Tristen (Ryan) of Calgary, AB; Jaydin of Fort Nelson, BC; and Teagan and Mason of Coaldale, AB. Great-grandchildren: Aveah and Kayzlee of Stony Plain, AB; and Jacen of Kingston, ON.
Velda also leaves behind her siblings: Betty Travers (Johnny), Glenda Dunphy, Brenda Jacques (Steve), Marilyn Gallant (Rick), Gilbert Snooks, and Joceyln Griffith.
She is predeceased by her son Clayton; parents, Charolette and Wallace Snooks; brother Joseph Peddle; grandson Jordan Anderson; and brothers-in-law Mick Dunphy and Mike Griffith.
There are far too many family members to name, but Velda loved all her in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends deeply. Her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone she knew.
There will be no service, instead we are having A Celebration of Life service to honor Velda on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at 1:00pm at 105 Cranberry Court, Hinton, AB.
