Terrance Welner Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Terrance DeWayne Michael Welner. Terry was born on January 21, 1951, in Berwick, Nova Scotia. He passed peacefully away on September 17,2022, after a brief battle with liver disease. He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Linda, his sons Cody and Caley, his stepdaughters Jill (Karlee) and Abby (Wes), his brother Rick (Pauline), his sisters Debbie (Gerry), Marilyn, Sandra, Bernice (Miller), Karen (Brian), Heather, and Sue (Kurt), and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Ron, his mother Freda, and his father Al.

Terry was an active man. He loved hockey - for both the on-ice adventures and the post-game locker room trash talk and shenanigans. He was a great tennis player and teacher, as well as an accomplished arm-chair analyst/commentator of the game. He spent many hours on his ebike - on both Jasper’s amazing trail system and on the Athabasca Falls loop. He enjoyed archery sessions and fishing expeditions with his son. He was an avid golfer, and a long-time member of JPL’s beautiful golf club. He spent long hours walking with his boxer buddy Beau.

Terry was a big movie fan who spent many evenings in the Chaba with a bowl of pickled cowboy popcorn on his lap and his wife by his side. He loved Sudoku puzzles, painting, cribbage throw-downs and backgammon games. He loved gardening and spent many hours planning, plotting, potting and pruning in his backyard Eden. He loved eating out and was a great cook himself, as anyone who sampled his fettuccini alfredo, his pepper steak or his baby back ribs could verify. Terry loved his days working for CN and Via Rail.

Terry touched the lives of so many people. He was ever kind, patient, humble, caring, generous, and full of good humour. He was an amazing listener who always had time for a chat on the street or in one of his favourite coffee haunts. His greatest joys were found in the times he spent with his family and his many, many friends. He was well-loved and will be forever missed by friends and family in both his Maritime home and his Rocky Mountain one.

As per Terry’s wishes, there will be no funeral or ceremony of any kind. Please remember Terry in your own time and in your own way and raise a cup of cappuccino or a glass of red to him when you can.
