Russ, born March 13, 1944, in London, England, and raised in Calgary, Alberta, passed away December 18, 2025, in Jasper, Alberta, a town that for 50 years he called home. His beautiful wife Patricia, whom he loved dearly, was at his side.
Throughout his life, Russ had many passions. He loved animals - adopting often and frequently taking in strays. He enjoyed hockey, as a member of the Jallopies or out on the pond - sometimes planned but most often impromptu on whatever body of water happened to freeze first.
And he loved music - blasted at high volume while working on bikes (that required no fixing) in his beloved garage or while on road trips when he’d “allow” us as kids to sing along (although only to the chorus). And if memory serves, the song of choice was Don Mclean’s very lengthy American Pie - which somehow made it all the more fun…Russ was ALWAYS singing and dancing.
Russ was a much loved curmudgeon. He was funny, warm-hearted; and despite often being challenging, he was a real charmer. He wore his heart on his sleeve…never “shy” to let his opinions be known.
It should also be mentioned that Russ loved Halloween: the decorations, scary music, costumes, and pumpkin pie; he even arranged a neighbourhood pie baking contest one year and I’m pretty sure there were 8 or 9 pies to eat.
In his career Russ was a Meteorologist, although he preferred the title of Weatherman.
From his passion for raising his family in Jasper, he built a beautiful ‘bomb proof’ house.
In 1985, he met and fell in love with Patricia Anderson, whom he married a year later, and over the next 40 years they continued, together, making that house a home.
It’s impossible to fit a life of moments, memories and people on to one page and we, his family, take comfort in knowing that Russ was so loved and embraced by so many wonderful people, thank you all.
Russ will be greatly missed, but his memory lives in our hearts and on our sleeves, especially by his wife Pat Rowlandson and our blended family of kids: Travis, Kristin, Scott, Leighann; and grandkids: Maxine, Shannon, and Pius, as well as his brother Wayne, niece Carrie, and nephew Ben (and too many dogs and cats to name)
