Reinhold Sommerfeld Obituary

It is with utmost sadness and a heavy heart that we inform you of the peaceful passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Brother and Grandfather Reinhold (Ray) Sommerfeld of Hinton, Alberta on Friday December 17th, 2021, at the age of 90. Ð’dÐ’dRay was born in Leoville Saskatchewan to Louis and Lydia Sommerfeld on July 7th, 1931. Ray had many fond memories of farm life. At the age of 16 he earned his truck driving badge and drove trucks and milk wagons. In 1954 he married Clara Dortman and they settled in Edmonton to raise Allen, Cheryl and Kathy. In 1970 they came to Hinton where he would spend the next 51 years of his life. Ray started working in the Woodlands division of the mill in 1974. He enjoyed the active outdoor work and retired from the Mill in 1994. Ray was a devoted family man and was always happy to spend time with family, grandchildren and his eventual eight great grandchildren, who were all a delight to him. Ray and his wife Clara enjoyed their daily coffee times with town friends and family. Ray was an accomplished woodworker and spent many enjoyable hours employing his craft for friends and family. Ray attended Church most of his life and his faith in God now has him enjoying the company of those loved ones who went before him. It is said that if you want to know what a man was like, ask his family. His whole family will tell you he was a gentle, loving, hardworking man who loved dearly and was loved dearly by all. Ð'dÐ'dRay is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Clara, son Allen and his wife Cindy, their two sons Dan, Dustin and his wife Andrea, their three children Emma, Benter, and Jaxson, all of Hinton, daughter Kathy and her husband Patrick (Florida), their two sons Andrew (Florida), Nathan and his wife Jennifer, their three sons Noah, Jonah, and Caleb, all of Hinton, grandchildren Scott Wilson (Hinton), Lindy and Cyril Paquin, their two children Cameron and Abigail, all of Grand Cache, son in Law Morgan Wilson of Hinto, brother Milton and his wife Carol of Edmonton, sisters Esther Hauch (Vernon), Doris O’Brien (Barrhead), Florence and her husband Lawrence Morhrmann (Barrhead), Edna and her Husband George West (Hinton), Diane and her Husband Darrel Romeo (Drumheller), sister in law Hilda Sommerfeld (Vernon), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, their families and many friends over the years. Ð'dÐ'dRay was predeceased by his parents Louis and Lydia Sommerfeld, brothers Arnold and Bill, sister Shirley Ann, brothers-in-law Bob O’Brien and Jack Hauch, sister-in-law Annette Sommerfeld, and his beloved Daughter Cheryl Wilson.
