Milicia (Babic) Petric

Milicia (Emily) Petric passed away peacefully, in her sleep, at the Hinton Continuing Care Centre on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the age of 97.

Milicia was born in Studenci, Croatia, on September 2, 1924, to Ivan and Andja Babic. As a young woman, Milicia moved to Serbia, married and raised two daughters. Milicia came to Canada in 1974 and Hinton became her home. Milicia worked in the Hospitality Industry until her retirement. Being limited in the English language, Milicia, with a bright smile and twinkle in her eye, would not shy away from activities and events held at the Hinton Legion to senior’s residences. Milicia is survived by her daughter Ankica, granddaughter Gordana and three great granddaughters of Bacinci, Serbia, daughter Veselinka, grandson Mario of Steyr, Austria, nephew John Babic and family of Edmonton, nephew Steven Babic and family of Edmonton, niece Annie Babic and family of Leduc as well as numerous relatives from Edmonton, Vancouver, Ontario and Croatia.

She will be remembered by many friends she made in Hinton.

Milicia is predeceased by her parents Ivan and Andja Babic, her brother Peter Babic (2006), nephew Drago Babic (1991), sisters Eva, Slava and Gula and numerous other siblings and relatives from Croatia and Serbia. Milica is the last of her familial generation.

A sincere thank you to the staff at Hinton Continuing Care and Dr. Sorenson for all the care they gave Milica, especially during her last days. Milica was: unique, fearless and loving.
