Michael Perham Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Perham.

Michael (“Mike”, “Mikey”, “Mick”, and “Sniffer”) took his last breath peacefully on January 20, 2020 at Victoria Hospice surrounded by his son, Jeffrey, and daughter, Lyndsay. His grand-puppy, Jasper, was also by his side. Mike was 63 years old.

Mike was born on September 20, 1956 on Woody Island, Newfoundland to the late Michael and Selina Perham. Growing up, Mike was a quiet fellow but always could light up a room with his jokes and sense of humour.

In 1990, Mike moved to Jasper, Alberta with his family. Mike loved living in Jasper where he worked for Trans Mountain and was a member of Jasper Volunteer Fire Brigade. Even after several years of not living in the beautiful mountain town, Jasper always held a special spot in his heart, full of memories of camping, fishing, hunting, dog walks. Many will remember Mike’s awesome dance moves and him driving around with his Newfoundland Dog Cabot, who was waiting to greet him on his next Journey. Mike spent the last few years living in Nanimo, BC where he lived a simple life with his dogs.

Although Mike struggled with some concurrent mental health issues throughout a portion of his life, he was always a fighter and continued to persevere through even the darkest of times. Nearing the last few years of his life, Mike managed to successfully find peace and forgiveness within himself and others. Always a fighter, Mike fought until the end, always taking each day as it was his last “day by day”.

Mike leaves behind many family members including his sister Patricia, brothers Wayne “Lammie” and Charlie, Son Jeffrey, Daughter Lyndsay (Ethan), great niece Selina, forever friends including Clem and Tracy, Lena and Shane, Ursula and Allan, Ann Marie and Al, Greg, Linda, and of course his fur-ever friends Jasper, Louie, Selina, and Teddy.
