Maureen Charlotte Preece

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Maureen Charlotte Preece on December 21, 2022, at the age of 81. Maureen was born on November 17, 1941, in Edson, Alberta.

Maureen is predeceased by her parents Ivor and Joan Preece. Maureen is survived by her brother Edwin and his wife Shirley of Edson, nephew Kevin Preece of Grande Prairie, niece Cheryl (Cory) Whitesell of Edson and their girls Rebekah, Lucy, and niece Donna (Darrell) Sirski of Edmonton.

Maureen lived at home with her parents. Edwin, Shirley, and kids lived next door for a number of years when the kids were younger. During those years Maureen would play games with them.
Maureen worked in the Edson Hospital in the laundry department for many years. She loved to paint and took art classes. Soon after she had learned to drive, Maureen had bought herself a car. She would drive to town and Maureen and her mother would go for rides in the country. She loved to watch her VHS movies and play her records and cassettes. In 1969 Maureen and her mother took a trip to England. Maureen also had some friends take her and her mother to Jasper on several trips. Shirley took them and Cheryl and Donna on a trip to Prince George, B.C with a truck and camper. Once Edwin and his family moved to Lac La Biche, Alberta, Maureen and her mom travelled by bus for a visit.

In November 2002, Maureen and her mom moved into the Lodge because of her mom’s health. It was a big adjustment. They shared a room until Maureen’s mom was moved into the nursing home. Everyone had to move into the hospital while the lodge was being built. When the lodge was finished, they moved back in and Maureen settled in okay. There she continued to enjoy her music records and telephone conversations with many people.

A Funeral Service will take place January 4th, 2023, at 11:00AM at the Foothills Memorial Chapel (5040 6th Ave, Edson, AB). Friends may meet family to pay their final respects between 10:30 and 11:00. Interment at Glenwood Cemetery will take place after the Service, lunch and fellowship to follow at the Pioneer Cabin (4836 7th Ave, Edson, AB).
