Mary Fehr Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Fehr (née Farnworth) passed away suddenly on August 18, 2025, surrounded by the deep love of her husband, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.

Born July 12, 1946, to Richard (Dick) and Muriel Farnworth, Mary graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1967 and cherished the friendships of her nursing classmates for more than 50 years. In 1968, she married Ronald John Fehr, and together they built a family, welcoming their first of four children in 1970.

Mary was a dedicated wife and mother. When her youngest child started school, she returned to nursing at the Hinton Hospital, where she loved her patients and fellow nurses—especially helping mothers welcome their new babies into the world.

Mary’s life was deeply shaped by her faith. As a follower of Jesus, she sought to love others as He did, and many people experienced her care through her prayers, which she considered the greatest gift she could offer.

She loved the beauty of God’s creation, especially the majesty of the mountains. She enjoyed a good game of cards—or any competition, really—and will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit and warmth.

Mary was dedicated to serving others through her profession, her involvement in women’s ministries, building and encouraging women as leaders, her churches over the years, and the Hinton branch of the Children of Chernobyl. Her service changed lives in both physical and spiritual ways.

She will be remembered for her constant and authentic encouragement. Mary was truly a cheerleader for her family, for people struggling through life’s challenges, and for her favourite Canadian sports teams. She brought passion and commitment to everything within her circle of care.

Mary was predeceased by her beloved son, David Fehr; her parents, Richard and Muriel Farnworth; and her brothers, George and John Farnworth. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ron Fehr; her daughters Mary Anne Martinson, Wendy Fehr (Stephen Cooper), and Robyn Barry (Bryce Barry); and her treasured grandchildren Jonathan, Kale, and Sydney Martinson; Emmett and Charles Fehr-Cooper; and Nolan and Amelia Barry.

A Funeral Service to honour Mary’s life will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Gateway Community Church, Hinton, Alberta.

All who were impacted by her love and encouragement are welcome. A live stream will be available for those who are unable to physically attend at www.youtube.com/@gcchinton2770.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to CAUSE Canada (cause.ca/donate), a charity close to Mary’s heart that works to empower vulnerable women and girls through education, economic opportunities, and health services, particularly those related to maternal, newborn, and child health. Your gift will be a meaningful way to honour Mary’s memory and continue her legacy of compassion and care for others.
